MADARAO RESTAURANT GUIDE 2019-20

RESTAURANTS IN IIYAMA AND MADARAO

AKIS BURGER

It used to be known as Tyrol but has now been taken over by Aki to be a new burger spot on the slopes. Add a pool table and draft beer and you have a cozy spot to wait out a blizzard.
Picture

RUDOLF

Madarao's go-to Italian restaurant. Great Pizza and Pasta as well a variety of other favourites. Delizio!
Picture

THE LODGE CAFE

JAZZY

From Australian-style pub food like Chicken Parmagana to Japanese favourites like sushi, sashimi and gyoza. The Lodge Cafe will have you covered. Wash it down with a local sake, espresso coffee or craft beer.
Picture
Need a funky place for a drink, a meal and to listen to some jazz music at night. Try Jazzy. Great shot bar and drinks.
Dig it!
Picture

UNJAUNE

Hard to pronounce but a lot easier to digest. Unjaune is a great hamburger and beer barn close to Jazzy. Big burgers and strong drinks and it parties until late. Just the spot you need if you're looking for a big night.
Picture

END BAR

Live music, jager bombs and shots. As the name suggests, it always ends at End Bar.
Picture

DONGURIMURA

KAPPAZUSHI

Got a hankering for some meat? Eat Japanese style yakiniku in a log cabin at Donguri Mura. They will even pick you up and drive you home, as no one is expected to walk after all that meat.
Picture
Everybody's favourite. Down the hill in Iiyama for sushi that just keeps on going round and round.
Picture

KORYU CHINESE RESTAURANT

Also down in Iiyama, but well worth the trip. Just next to Kappa-zushi. Biggest chicken karage in Japan, or at least the biggest in Iiyama.
Picture

SURGE

Also next to Kappa-zushi and Koryu in Iiyama is a great Italian place called 'Surge'. They have an all you can eat salad bar and lots of other stuff to keep you happy.
Picture

MADARAO NO YU

The local hot spring also doubles as a great place to have a bite to eat and a drink after a bath. Around 3 km down the road from Madarao Mountain Resort.
Picture

MADARAO KOGEN HOTEL

Go big or go home at the Madarao Kogen Hotel. They do a buffet style, all you can eat dinner which will keep you fuelled up through your ski trip. They have a selection of Japanese, Chinese and Western food.
Picture

TANGRAM TOKYU RESORT

Not to be outdone by their neighbours at Madarao Kogen Hotel, Tanguram Resort also do an all-you-can-eat deal that won't leave you hungry. It costs you a little more but you won't have to eat another meal for a week or so.
Picture

NEGI TO KONA

There is a great okonomiyaki and takoyaki restaurant right at Iiyama station, next to the Tsuruya supermarket. Great place to get some food and fill in time while you're waiting for a bus or train.
Picture

OKONOMIYAKI SAKURA

You don't have to go all the way to Iiyama for okonomiyaki. Madarao also has it's own Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant. So what's Hiroshima okonomiyaki? Think of regular okonomiyaki on steroids. Loads of sauce and cabbage. One should keep you going for the day.
Picture

DROP OFF BAR

A great little bar to drop into when the light-weights in your group start to drop away. Drop-off Bar has good drinks and food and it stays open till late. It is also run by the guys at Action Snow Sports, so you might be able to get some free skiing tips as well.
Picture

AKI'S PUB & CAFE

Aki's cafe is right on the Madarao Mountain ski slopes and also makes for a great place for a drink and some food after skiing. Chicken wings, pizza and beer. Don't get much simpler than that.
Picture

ROKUBEI

If you want some real country-style local food, take a trip into Iiyama and visit Rokubei. The owner is an ex-ski champion and also makes some great food. There is also an excellent selection of sake, if you want to belly up to the bar.
Picture

THE SHAGGY YAK

SMOKIES BAR

If it looks like a Yak, smells like a Yak and drinks like a Yak, then it`s probably a Yak. This Yak has awesome drinks and food though, all set to the tune of some old school vinyl records.
Picture
Sausages, beer and a room full of smoke. Nothing could be worse for your health but better for your soul than a night at Smokies, It also has regular live music and a jam night. You will be guaranteed a smokin` good time!
